ARTIST BIO: Childhood: Born in an extremely small town in South Australia in 1965, Amanda would describe her childhood as poignant. An affinity with natural things and animals gave her a depth that is never far from the surface. Drawn to the scent of horses, the wildness of long grass, and the sprinkle in the night sky, she saw not only beauty but a vision of promise. Not known for her small talk, Amanda is driven by more: understanding, texture, feeling, and poetry infuse her every day.

Sensuality: A gift for sensuality drove her to the kitchen, where dishes were always created from the season; they had to have a sense of place and time. They had to possess a structure that spoke of where they came from, both physically and culturally.

Imagination: Forever a daydream away from the imagined world as a small child, she collected sticks and invented mystical creatures on her windowsill. The idea of a fairy tale plays in her work as the light and dark in our lives give rise to natural, beautiful worn things.

Artistry: From the windowsill to the plate to the pictures she has always drawn, with thin black lines there is a connection. Painting was introduced by her mother, who gave her a set of oils at 9 years old. Magical mixtures created layers of texture. Line drawing became how she expressed her ideas and emotions, and eventually her healing.

Evolution: Line drawing has reached full circle as now she is in Provence, where she discovered French watercolour. The washes have intensity and fragility. Watercolour infuses her work with multiple shades of life and tells stories of the life you want.

Inspiration: Amanda is self-taught, believing that the truth of knowing oneself is evident in her work. Her art is whimsical and poetic, drawing inspiration from a life in France, still life, Provence souvenirs, and objects of desire.
